This conversation took place in the car after an afternoon of running errands and frustration with kids who would not listen, and insisted on making those annoying punching and fighting noises (with their mouths) that little boys love, over and over in the backseat.
Luke: Do you already have our Christmas gifts?
Mom: Do you need Christmas gifts?
All: YEEEEESSSS!!
Mom: Do you deserve gifts? (It had been a rough parenting day.)
Younger boys: (Guiltily) Nooooo.
Jake: (With his smart-alec face on, trying to make a point.) Do we deserve Heaven?
Mom: No, we don’t. (Dramatic pause.) But who died for your gifts?
(Muhahahah! Score one for Mom!)
(Another dramatic pause.)
Jake: SANTA!
I’m not sure who won that volley, but know I got a couple guilt points in.
