Big Crash

We’ve had another great start to a busy week. It’s not so busy as many of our weeks, but I hadn’t anticipated having the energy or sanity to get off to a good start, but, lo and behold, we did! We made a very fast and furious trip to Levelland, way out in West Texas, for a funeral on Saturday, and I thought we would be so tuckered out that I’d have to rest all day on Monday. We drove up on Friday, 7 hours, attended visitation on Friday night, stayed up until 1 am (cable), went to the funeral on Saturday at 10, then drove two hours to the visitation and one hour back to Lubbock. By that time, I WAS pooped, and barely made it through dinner. Though we didn’t go to sleep until later, we were in BED in our hotel room by 8 pm! We attended Lord’s day services Sunday morning, then drove the 7 hours back home and unpacked. We were in bed by 11, and with a little extra sleep on Monday morning, were actually well-rested. Nice!

This morning, Luke came in and declared that Levi had taken off his training wheels, and he could ride his bike. Well! He go the bike months and months ago, but the chain came off, and he didn’t have much interest in getting it fixed. Eventually, someone fixed it (probably Craig, but maybe one of his brothers), and he’s been practicing for a few weeks with the trainers. So, I followed him out this morning, and found he and Levi at the top of the driveway, about to race. I didn’t figure this would amount to much, but maybe he’d be able to at least coast down the drive for a bit. I was wrong! He actually rode the bike down the hill, and until he came to the turn, did great. The turn, however, did him in! You can see the whole thing on the video here, which I was glad I got. It turned out perfect! After this first ride, I sent him in for elbow and knee pads until he gets some practice under his belt, and told them they ALL have to wear helmets for racing! They usually don’t wear helmets, since they only get to ride on the driveway and in the dirt, which means they never get much speed. They aren’t allowed to ride on the road at all, unless they are following Craig while he jogs, so this is the first time they’ve really started putting any speed into the equation. Now we know, don’t we!




The other day, Craig went in to wake the boys up, and we found Luke sleeping inside his pillow case. His blankets had fallen to the floor, and instead of getting down to pick them up, he burrowed into the pillow case and went back to sleep. He was a little chilly!



They boys are working hard on math right now so we can get all of our work done and get on the road to see Mammy this afternoon. We have been hammering down on the school work so we can be finished by August, and it’s looking very promising. If we’re a little behind, it will be fine, but I’d sure LIKE to start new books in September. It’s always refreshing and motivating to start fresh, new books! Another thing we’ll have to add to this year’s school-year purchases is a desktop computer. The kids aren’t allowed on mine, since it’s THE household computer, so they have been using Craig’s 1995 Dell Inspiron laptop. The battery doesn’t work, so it has to stay plugged in, but that’s not a problem. However, it has started having some real issues, and seems to be messed up every time we turn it on now. Somehow, the desktop icons manage to reproduce when the power is off (naughty things wait for the dark) and we end up with 10-100 copies of each icon. I have to go in and delete all of them before Jake can watch his math dvd! So, we’re planning to buy an inexpensive desktop, used or new, for the new year. If you have a desktop you need to upgrade… let us know! We’d prefer one that doesn’t have a 19 in the model year, though!
