ALL the boys got new games for the Wii, and we've spent a good part of the last week doing Wii yoga, aerobics, and balance games. One of our group favorites is the hula hoop competition. It's fun and exercise for the person who is doing it, but it's MUCH more fun for those who are watching! Let me see if I can create a good mental picture... You have to stand with your feet on a platform that is about 2 feet wide and make the little man on the screen move by make the movements yourself. So, in order to make him move the hula hoop, you literally have to move your hips in a circle, and go as fast as you can. Now, imagine CRAIG on the platform, feet planted together, leaning slightly forward, arms held up like he's being robbed, gyrating his hips like Elvis on Red Bull energy drinks. It's funny watching ANYONE do it, but it was especially amusing when Craig did it, because it's not a position you could ever imagine him in! Of course, when it was MY turn, Craig made about 5 videos of it. The best part is when you get toward the end, and you start getting really tired after 2-3 minutes of fast-as-you-can-swing-'em hip gyrations. You no longer make circles, but start looking like you're being electrocuted... arms flailing, hips going every direction, and laughing hysterically. I must say, the videos are funny, but I'm NOT sharing them!
Bub grilled steaks for our non-traditional Christmas dinner, while we packed up the camper for our holiday in the hills. After we ate our late lunch, we packed up and headed for Concan (which is about 25 miles north of Uvalde) for a few nights of camping with Craig's family. Everyone else stayed in a cabin, which is where we had our meals and played games, and our family slept in the camper. They had an outdoor fireplace, so we spent ALL day Friday just sitting out around that, doing a whole bunch of nothing. It was great. We played a lot of games and just hung out and relaxed. Craig and Jake went hunting nearby, but didn't get anything, and we ended up leaving one day early because Jake started feeling bad and running a fever. It didn't last long, but it was nice to get home after 4 nights in the camper. Let me tell you, though, camping is AWESOME when you have heat, air, hot water in a full-size shower, gas stove, and a refrigerator. Oh, and a full-size pillow-top bed to sleep on. Tents are SO outdated!
Craig had to work some on Wednesday, then we attended services and hung out with our church family for New Year’s Eve. We’re getting old, though. We left before midnight! Thursday was another rest day, which we spent doing nothing again. Actually, we worked on our new 1,000 piece puzzle and got it finished. That was a good feeling, except for the two pieces that were missing! It was a brand new puzzle, but we started it last week, and I guess a couple of the pieces got knocked off the table and disappeared. Do you know how frustrating it is to only have 998 of the pieces you need?? We spent a total of 6-7 hours on that thing!! It’s like spending hours decorating a cake, then watching it being cut and eaten in 30 minutes. Devastating!
Yesterday, Friday, Craig and Jake got up at 4:30 am and drove to
Brownwood to hunt, and it proved a fruitful endeavor. Jake shot his very first deer, and Craig shot one right after him. They were both does, which is excellent for our freezer stock, and Jake didn’t seem to mind that for his first kill. She was a big one, too. He was pretty excited, and Craig said he made a great shot and she dropped where she stood. That’s always nice, when they don’t have to go tracking in the dark! They got home about 10:30 last night, so they were pretty tired, but happy.
Levi, Luke, and I went to visit Mammy in Austin, then spent about an hour watching the weirdo show at Whole Foods before heading home. Luke started running a fever and felt REALLY bad, but it only lasted a few hours. He would bury his face in a pillow and just kind of roll around, saying the light hurt his eyes. It was kind of weird, but I’m convinced that the proactive measures I took, both with him and Jake last week, are what helped them get over it so quickly. Within 2 hours of the herbal treatments, the fever was gone and they were well. Pretty amazing!
Today, Craig, Jake, and Levi have gone to work, Luke is watching movies, and I get to file and work on lesson plans. Whee! I think that is a pretty good re-cap of our year-end, and a good start to the New Year. We don’t have anything too exciting planned for this year… so far! But, as the Lord has taught us, sometimes His plans make life awfully exciting when you least expect it! We’ll see….
